The Animal Shelter has cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and rabbits for adoption year round. At times we also have birds, hamsters, guinea pigs and rats available.
California state law requires that all cats and dogs be spayed or neutered prior to being adopted. In accordance with this law the Alameda Animal Shelter charges a spay/neuter fee which applies to all cats and dogs in addition to the $25.00 adoption fee. Animals needing surgery will be transported to a veterinary clinic the next available business day (you will pick them up from the clinic). Animals already spayed or neutered can go to their new homes the same day they are adopted.
We participate in Pet Harbor and Virtual Pet Adoptions websites, two services dedicated to helping people find adoptable animals throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. On that site you view the animals we have available for adoption. After checking the adoption site we recommend that you call us to see if that animal is still available.
Health Examination Certificate
When you adopt a cat, dog or rabbit you will receive a free health examination certificate. This entitles you to have your new pet examined by a veterinarian at no cost to you. The examination does not include shots or medication, it is simply to let you know you are adopting a healthy animal.
