Welcome to Silicon Island
Office, industrial and retail businesses thrive in Alameda. For decades mariners and yacht dealers have thronged to Alameda's harbors. More recently, Alameda earned the nickname, "Silicon Island," due to the thriving high-tech firms in its modern business parks.
Economic Development Strategic Plan
The City of Alameda’s Economic Development Strategic Plan (EDSP) is the City's long-term roadmap to achieve economic growth while at the same time improving quality of life of Alameda residents and employees.
A periodic review was initiated in late 2005 to update the 2000 Plan. Of particular note, the updated EDSP incorporates recent progress on the redevelopment of Alameda Point, particularly with the selection of the Master Developer and the preparation of the Alameda Point Preliminary Development Concept.
