“Me” Resource Computer Program
Wednesdays, July 28, and August 4 2 - 3:30 p.m. Main Library.
Let’s talk about you. Students will learn about a variety of online reference tools while sharing about who they are and what their interests are. This three session series is for kids in 3rd-5th grade and registration is required. Call 747-7708 for more information.

Super Summer Cinema: Lilo and Stitch
Thursday, July 29, 2 p.m. Main Library.
This movie is rated PG & lasts 86 minutes.

Building with Bamboo with Ploughshares Nursery
Saturday, August 7, 2 p.m. Main Library.
Meet with Ploughshares Nursery to learn how to build bamboo structures for a garden. Learn bamboo building basics including simple designs and lashing techniques, while creating a trellis for pennies on the dollar and a couple of hours. Bring a sharp set of clippers and loppers. Weather permitting, the event will be held in the courtyard behind the library café, so plan for sun.

The Annual End of Summer Reading Party
Wednesday, August 18, 6:30 p.m. O'Club (641 Redline Ave.)
The Annual End of Summer Reading Party will be held for all children who participated in this year’s summer reading challenge, Make a Splash! @ your library. Come meet some of Alameda’s city officials, Library Director Jane Chisaki, and musician and former Disney Channel performer Gary Lapow, who brings his “Make A Splash: Read!” show to the O’Club!

Intermediate Book Club
The Intermediate Book Club is for children in third grade through fifth grade, and will meet the first Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. in the Childrens Program Room at the Main Library. The program will last forty-five minutes and include games, discussion, and a light snack. Children are expected to have finished the assigned title and be ready to participate in the discussion. Advanced Book Club
The Advanced Book Club is for children in fifth grade through eighth grade, and will meet the second Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. in the Childrens Program Room at the Main Library. The program will last an hour and include games, discussion, and a light snack. Children are expected to have finished the assigned title and be ready to participate in the discussion. Beginning Book Club
The Beginning Book Club is for children in first grade through third grade and will meet the third Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. in the Children's Program Room at the Main Library. Go Club
Learn to play the game of Go. Nationally ranked player, Charley Weiland (2-dan), offers instruction on the game each month at the Alameda Free Library. Free for all ages, from beginners to advanced players, these lessons are held on the first Saturday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Main Library.

Paws to Read
Main Library.
Would you like to read to a friendly dog? Children in kindergarten through fifth grade have the opportunity to read to some amazing listeners who love to relax while listening to a good book. All the dogs involved in the program have been certified, passing temperament and sociability tests. Sign-ups are required. Please call 510-747-7705 for more information about dates and times.

Second and Fourth Fridays. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Main Library, Stafford Meeting Room B.

Free Homework Coaching
Free homework coaching on all subjects for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th is being offered at the Main Library, the West End Library and the Bay Farm Island Library. After school, from 3:30 to 5, high school students are available to help younger students with their homework. The program is offered on school days, except for minimum days and test days. Please contact each library for schedule of coaching availability.

Teen Book Group
Choose which books to read and talk about, socialize (snack provided), receive your own paperback copy of each book! Sign up at the Main Library Reference Desk or call 510-747-7713. Sponsored by the Friends of the Alameda Free Library.

Alameda Library Book Club
Everyone is welcome! This book group meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Study Room, at the Main Library.

Everyone is welcome to read Great Books! This book group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Family Study Room, at the Main Library. New participants are welcome. For information about the group contact: Susan Foremen, 522-7243

Lawyers in the Library
Local attorneys, through the Alameda County Bar Association, offer free legal assistance and referral the first Wednesday night, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. of each month. Sign ups begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Reference Desk. Names will be drawn via lottery at 5:50 p.m. Call 510-747-7713 for more details.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale
The next Friends of the Alameda Free Library Used Book Sale will be October 15, 16, 17, 2010 at the O'Club on Alameda Point. Thousands of gently used books! Friday, 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. preview sale, $5.00 admission or paid membership to the Friends of the Library; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., free admission; Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m. clearance sale, free admission.

Community Sing Along (ages 0-3 yrs.)
Mondays and Fridays, 10:15-11 a.m., Main Library. Infants and toddlers, along with their parents and caregivers, will join in forty-five minutes of parent-led singing, dancing, shaker play, and parachute time.

Ayesha Samdani - Abstract Painting
An Exhbibition in the Regina K. Stafford Meeting Rooms at the Main Library from Monday, June 7 through Saturday, July 31, 2010
Ayesha was born and grew up in Pakistan, moving to the United States six years ago. Abstract painting is her passion and she has been painting and drawing for the past twelve years. She takes her ideas from nature which become the starting point of her paintings. Her paintings are a combination of of organic shapes, lines, brush strokes and drips. The process of her painting can be seen through translucent layers painted on top of each other. Through a various limited color palette she depicts different modes of seasons.
