LIVE @ the Library 2010 Concert Series: September 25; October 23; November 20
Join us for the 2nd season of the Live@theLibrary 2010 Concert Series. The Alameda Library Foundation, Friends of the Alameda Library and the City Library Board Art Committee will again host three fall concerts at the Main Library. The programs include many local, talented artists who are donating their performances to benefit the Library.
This year, we also have community sponsors to underwrite expenses so all proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Library. Our sponsors are: Perforce Foundation, Wells Fargo, Clear-Com, Bank of Alameda, and Burma Superstar. In-kind donors include Cairdea Design & Marketing, R&B Cellars, Books Inc., and Dewey’s Friends Café.
This season’s programs include:
Saturday, Sept. 25: Alameda All Stars - Featuring Terrence Brewer, Jane Erwin Hammett, Kathy Moehring, Kelly Park, Barbara & Kevin Brown, Ray Chavez, Barbara Nedd, and Steve Erquiaga. Everything from American Songbook standards, Broadway show tunes, to guitar solos and jazz tunes.
Saturday, Oct. 23: Euphonia – a café-style acoustic combo featuring soaring harmony vocals and sophisticated musicianship. Euphonia brings together the compelling voices, restless minds and nimble fingers of four remarkable Northern California (two from Alameda) musicians.
Saturday, Nov. 20: Rick Dougherty of the Kingston Trio will host a cabaret evening of songs from jazz to folk served with sides of humor and wit. Rick performed last year in our September showcase and we couldn’t wait to get him back on stage.
All concerts are at the Alameda Main Library, Regina K. Stafford Rooms. Doors open @ 7:00 pm; concerts @ 8:00 pm. Light refreshments and R&B Cellars wine available.

Salma Arastu - Lyrical Visions
Creating with continuous, lyrical lines and celebrating the universal spirit of unity is what Salma Arastu offers after thirty years of working as a visual artist. She is deeply influenced by the human form and human spirit. Salma was born in Rajasthan India, and maintains a home and studio in Berkeley California. Her work is represented in several galleries in the United States and overseas, and is included in more than one hundred private collections.
The exhibition will take place in the Regina K. Stafford Meeting Rooms at the main library from Monday August 30 through Saturday September 25, 2010. On Wednesday September 8, at 6 p.m., a reception will be held in the exhibit space and Salma will discuss her new book The Lyrical Line - Embracing All and Flowing. Her book includes a collection of much of her work over the last ten years - paintings, sculpture, digital art and poetry. Refreshments will be served.
