Alameda, October 18, 2006 – At its meeting Monday evening, Alameda’s Public Utilities Board presented a check to the Alameda Education Foundation representing customer contributions to the Power Up for Learning program.

The check, in the amount of $7,409.55, was for volunteeer contributions made by Alameda residents participating in the “Power Up for Learning” program through Fiscal Year 2006. The program is a collaboration between Alameda Power & Telecom, the Alameda Unified School District, and the Foundation. Alameda residents can elect to make monthly contributions to the program by adding an amount of their choice to their electric bill. The purpose of the funds is to improve and implement technology programs in Alameda schools.
Board President Ann McCormick stated, “We are proud to provide the Power Up for Learning option to our customers and to assist the Foundation and the District. Most importantly, we thank all our customers who have participated.”
At the meeting, District and Foundation representatives gave a brief presentation to the Board discussing the intent to use the funds for a variety of measures, including an online educational database and research portal that will be available to every student in the District through its website.
